Newfag here, curious what you guys make of Dave. I've been listening to his podcast for some time now and he's been helpful in getting my finances organized, but what are your thoughts on him, good, bad, or indifferent?

Literally fucking who

>> No.16208152

Indifferent. It's nice that he makes people clean up their act.

>> No.16208166

He’s a filthy boomer and encourages people to get out of debt which is anti semitic.

Ultimately, taking control of your budget and managing every dollar is critical in making sure you have a retirement waiting for you.

I think he shills some mutual funds for investing along with other products.

The big reason why he's so anti credit is that he botched his real estate investing and over leveraged himself. He's also worked with some people that have really sunk themselves in a hole. Basically, he sees credit like another cigarette/drink/shot/etc and giving even just a little to someone who's abused it is a bad idea.

Personally, I think it's fine to work with credit a little bit to maintain a nice, high score. Ideally, you'd use a credit card only on stuff you were already buying in the first place.

Which leads me to my next idea that he is also really opposed to credit cards because people spend on them way more than they do with paper cash. What does 5% back on groceries do if you've spent $40 more? Likewise, people may buy too much house if they're approved for a big mortgage.

Read up on 'consumer friction', things like long payment forms that you have to fill out or using actual cash in your hand can create a negative feeling in your mind that'll deter you from following through with it.

With everything going touchless for payments now we're enjoying convenience but companies are finding that people will spend more and are less likely to 'abandon' items when they add them to their cart.

People split hairs with him over the dumbest petty things and he's completely right about that. They dislike him for stupid reasons.

It doesn't fucking matter if the mutual funds are front loaded or not if amerifats don't save any money to begin with
It doesn't matter that your credit card sends you back $100 at the end of the year when you are tens of thousands in the hole because you are a big retard.

I despise him for the fundamental reasons.
The fact that he needs scripture to convince yokels that debt is slavery, and if that doesn't work he resorts to using how much money he has or how many viewers he has instead.
The fact that it's difficult to stifle my vomit as he expounds puritanical work ethic and tells people how much of their life they need to commit to enriching their bosses.
The fact that he seems to think the central goal in a man's life is to man up and provide.

Fuck that bible thumping hillbilly.

I read his book cover to cover about 7 times while I was digging myself out of debt to escape a job I loathed. I skipped the whole "kids and college' thing because 5ever alone. Never listened to his podcast. The whole religion angle can be ignored if that's not your bag.

That being said, you need different tools to climb a mountain than to get out of a hole. I've moved on.

>> No.16209419

He is basic personal finance 101 and his material never progresses beyond that.

Credit is also an extremely effective tool, and you're gimping yourself by not using Goldbergnosestein's money against him.

Ignore his investment advice. It's pure Boomer shilling.

>>16208307

It's retarded to buy 5% front loaded S&P 500 funds or some Edward Jones fund that doesn't even match the S&P500. Someone bring shit with money doesn't excuse the product from being a scam.

>>16209231

I'm not in debt, but I listen to his podcast a few times a week. It's the only semi bearable money podcast. The rest of them shill garbage 10x harder with less content.

Not true, its fun listening to Robert Kiyosaki. Sure he shills all sorts of garbage, but you can just ignore that and enjoy him going full boomer

I don't hate him or anything, but how is his advice better than that of any person on the street's who has common sense? There's literally nothing profound about his advice. I'm surprised his channel got big enough by just dishing "Don't spend money like a retard" in 100 ways. I guess most of the population really has extra chromosomes to be able to benefit from that.

you live in a bubble, and your idea of common sense is NOT common.

he doesn't claim to be profound. obviously you don't listen to him because he has clearly stated many times how simple his advice is. live on less than you make. have an emergency fund. don't go into debt. pay off your debts. don't bite off more home than you can chew. don't waste money on depreciating assets, instead buy used. eat cheap, dress cheap, rent cheap, etc.

all the hate about 'mutual funds' being bullshit, you fags forget that he's simply teaching the basic concept of investing in groups of stocks instead of single stocks, not necessarily paying 5 3/4% front loaded funds from brokers. dave has never yelled at anybody that told him they bought index etf's. he simply doesn't expect you to go on robinhood and by SPY.
