Does anybody here do investigative work? I want to work for a private investigation firm. I want to be like those detectives in those 50's movies

investigative work falls into almost only 2 things: finding insurance cheats + finding cheating spouses. after the first 100 cases its mind numbingly boring.

I technically work for an investigation company but the stuff I do is boring and literally a job that Haitians can do. Our boss is an investigator but I just make phone calls and like that one anon above said, we find people who do insurance fraud or just try to save insurance companies money. I say the same stuff on the phone alll day every day and I'm basically a professional fisher for info.

But if you worked for something that investigated something interesting that'd be pretty cool. Like how cool would it be to investigate international crimes or investigate nuclear facilities to make sure things are up safety standards or cyber crime, or even investigate historical events that aren't 100% clear. things of that nature. I love the researching shit but I spend all day researching how Rita Shermankins is going to multiple hospitals before her workers comp claim and bothering cute girls on the phone with boring robotic phone calls. v_v

My friend does. Mostly parks in his jeep and gets video of people to prove Insurance fraud. catches them doing things they couldn't possibly do if they were as injured as they claim.

private investigators of the 1950s had work because no-fault divorce had not become common practice.

I used to be a "mystery shopper" for McDonald's and other brands it's like detective work and anyone can do it. Google it. I'd advise you try this before becoming a "true detective" because it's really boring work, nothing like the movies. As everyone already said, real private detectives only have insurance fraud and cheating cases, Because the fun stuff like drugs, prostitution and murder is "for cops only." Of course you have some rich old fucks who come with "find my missing kid/pet" or whatever but those cases are dead ends that even the cops can't solve with all their resources.

It's the same with bounty hunters, they only track down and find people skipping bail and 99% of the time just talk them into coming with them. Nothing is like I'm the movies, if it was we would be hearing a lot more explosions in our daily lives lol
