Board game lounges are taking off.

So why hasn't anyone opened up a lounge with videogames?

thoughts? any potential downfalls to the idea?

Idea:

Put an xbox in your garage

Put up nice christmas lights and get a liquor license

Invite people over and have them pay a monthly fee to play 24/7

Everyone loves it

Just kidding, why would someone pay to use an xbox across town when they could just have one in their residence

close garage door and turn on engines

profit (ded)

They have tried repeatedly.

They just fail. A key problem is the tendency to get flooded with kids rather than the 'cool' hipsters they hope to attract.

A bar/video game lounge opened up in town a couple of years ago, and they're still around.

I live in Kansas, so I just assumed that the bigger cities already had these, but I guess I'm wrong?

if we followed through with the business we would host tournaments with prizes and offer a more pampered experience than one would receive at home.

how did those that have tried, failed?

The margins are probably really bad.

checked.
you'd need a liquor license im pretty sure. However, people pay for atmosphere all the time.. so the ideas not completely retarded.

Supply and demand, but for community, not product.

Videogames have a large demand for interaction and they have a large supply (online games). Board games have a large demand for multiplayer but a small supply (must be played in-person).

People can easily play video games with other people online.
You can't play board games online so it's harder to find more people to play with.
