worst place to do the experiment. Japan is already the least productive nation with their working hours. Of course any shift from that to a shorter one would make them happy and cause them to do actual work.

We haven't implemented the 9 day fortnight like may other firms in the same field because we are a consultant. Our clients want us on Fridays.

Checked. However I disagree. It's kind of the whole point of a 4 day work week.

It's called a honeymoon period, expect the productivity to decline rapidly.

>> No.16159392

The question is whether they will then become gradually less productive again when having a 4 day week, forcing you to add another day. Whereas removing another day and having a 3 day week would again "boost" productivity. But only because they got used to the 4 day week. Which essentially means that you should alternate between 5 and 4 day weeks in order to prevent a sort of work-load memory and them starting to slack off....

This. On a normal, 5 day working week the weekend is too short.
On fridays you're just pretty tired to do anything, because you woke up early for work. Saturday might be fun but the next day is already sunday. Three-day weekend would be so great

I bet the productivity comes from being relieved from the 5 day. Eventually productivity will shrink because even 1 day of working on shit you don’t want to do is too much.

always thought less work days is totally baste but this is another sign of the growing wealth gap.
if i could come in 3 days a week, work 'sparingly' or something from home other days (answer emails at the end of the day to keep the wheels turning) that'd be awesome
however
what do with shift workers and shit?
just read the thread on the ubereats crybaby.

https://www.npr.org/2019/11/04/776163853/microsoft-japan-says-4-day-workweek-boosted-workers-productivity-by-40
>Workers at Microsoft Japan enjoyed an enviable perk this summer: working four days a week, enjoying a three-day weekend — and getting their normal, five-day paycheck.
>Four-day workweeks made headlines around the world in the spring of 2018, when Perpetual Guardian, a New Zealand trust management company, announced a 20% gain in employee productivity and a 45% increase in employee work-life balance after a trial of paying people their regular salary for working four days. Last October, the company made the policy permanent.

I believe it completely. Once it becomes the norm, at some point it will need to be cut to a 3 day week though as people get used to it. This is also fine, as more automation comes online. We need to fix healthcare though, and not by raising taxes but by getting a handle on the massive amount of waste and fraud that makes it cost so much. I am hopeful blockchain can be used in this capacity. I say we need to fix healthcare because this should also ultimately apply to Mcdonalds workers, but the way it is now you need to work 5 days to get healthcare in a lot of places I believe.

this will actually massively accelerate wealth creation if it takes hold, in that utility will be increased overall at a faster rate. the velocity of money would likely be increased as long as total wages did not decrease, and people would have more free time. a lot of those people would not do anything productive, sure, but a lot of them would create new technologies, products, art, improvements, and so on with all the newfound time.

A 4 day work would just make some people try fitting a mini job or something into the last day.

Also it just increases productivity probably shorter. People say you get 4 days instead of 5 for a short time to study if it works better. Everyone works better so they keep it. Productivity increases, they implement it, months later it decreases a lot because people get lazy again. Suprised pikachu.

It only may work if you distribute everyone so you business runs 24/7. This could increase productivity.
