The author, Steve Cuozo, was born in 1950 and is a boomer himself, so why should anyone listen to him? He wrote "When I was your age...", the article.

I do think millenials exaggerate just a little bit about how bad it is, but I'd be pretty fucked up about it too if paying tens of thousands and going to school for years only opened the door to getting an extra 5-10 dollars per hour.

I think a lot of the hard feelings millenials have for boomers is not just rooted in the economy, but also the decay of culture, whether they realize it or not. Sure, boomers had to work hard too, but there was always a light at the end of the tunnel for them. I think a lot of people today don't see a path to success in terms of not living paycheck to paycheck or being a wage slave, in terms of owning a house, or even in terms of having a happy and successful family and community.

A stoned Starbucks clerk, after asking me to endlessly repeat my order for a grande coffee, then repeating it to himself, asked me, “What were you having?” The zoned-out guy at Duane Reade took a $5 bill from me and inexplicably asked me what my phone number was — to the amused tittering of decidedly older customers in line behind me.
The phone number thing really throws me off, I'm not sure what the irritation actually is. Why is there no option to do leisurely work for 40k a year? My issue is the inflexibility, it seems like no matter what you're paid, you're expected to slave away. If I have a job that pays me 200k a year, why can't I just work 80% less and get paid 80% less? I'd gladly work one day a week for 40k a year. LOOOL
only a RETARD looks at that in face value. Here's why:
1. Discouraged workers (people who haven't applied for a job for 4 weeks and up but want one) are not included
2. Part time and full time workers that don't make a livable wage ARE included

Both if those together make the unemployment rates look massively better than they actually are. If a job doesn't pay a livable wage, it shouldn't even count.

Regardless of that, looking at JUST the unemployment rates without considering how much the jobs people have pay is straight up stupidity.

>hurr durr theres no jurbs
you motherfucking retard. As I noted above in this post, unemployment stats don't tell you how much jobs pay, idiot. If unemployment rate was 0% and every job paid 5 dollars per hour (just a scenario, retard. Don't get caught up now), is that a GOOD economy? Obviously not, idiot brainlet.

okay. Prepare your anus for the most destructive btfo of all time. No lube.

44% of 22-27 yr old college grads are underemployed (inb4 just do computer science as if everyone is capable of that. Even they have like a 24ish% underemployment rate for 22-27 yr olds: https://www.newyorkfed.org/research/college-labor-market/college-labor-market_compare-majors.html
Think about that. NEARLY 1/4 cs graduates aged 22-27 will be underemployed (don't know how it evens out over time. Still not amazing though. It's around 34% when including all ages and all majors). Also 1/4 college grads make highschool wages.
7/10 graduate with 29k+ in debt.

78% of full time workers live paycheck to paycheck ( *LITERALLY one paycheck away from homelessness and that is basically poverty* ). *42% of americans will retire broke* (so you give up the best years of your life being someone's bitch just to retire with nothing), 57% of americans can't afford an unexpected 500 dollar bill, 50% of renters are cost burdened (spend over 30% of their income on rent. Half of those spend over 50% of their income on rent), 30% of metropolis city jobs (where most jobs are created) pay hardship wages (not enough to move out with) and 32% pay livable wages (basically poverty) which leaves 38% that are decent (I say decent because you also have to take into consideration the toxicity of work culture. Also, some jobs ONLY pay livable or up BECAUSE of the hours put in. For instance, the average american works 47 hours a week. 49% work 50 hours or more a week. Both of which inflate the wage stats into looking better than it actually is), etc.

To be fair, I think that a lot of millennials ARE bad with money, but no more so than the boomers were. After all, they are boomer offspring.
The problem is that boomers basically got the whole world handed to them on a platter if they were willing to debase themselves to become a wageslave and because of survivorship bias they think that makes them geniuses, when in fact they just got a good economy due to Jews needing to convince them that they were good for the country.
If the boomers were smart they wouldn't have gone on worthless vacations and instead saved their money and handed it to their children. But they didn't.

True, I think boomers fail to realize that when they did a few years of hard work at a shitty job back in 1975, there was a light at the end of the tunnel for them. A lot of shitty jobs nowadays aren't shitty because they're challenging or don't pay 6 figures, it's because they're dead ends, and/or they will lead to a plethora of physical and health issues later in life. Sure you can make 6 figures driving a truck, or so I've been told (I've also been told that immigrant labor is severely depressing wages for these types of jobs, so idk), but most people want a job that won't destroy their bodies after a couple decades. Idk, maybe most people simply can't have a job that pays well and doesn't make them miserable.

Well I think it's important to realize that the middle class as we know it in America is an aberration, NOT the norm for economies. The standard economy is master and slave castes. Middle castes can arise but generally they are locked off and usually in the bueracratic sector (monarchs hired Jews as tax collectors to avoid getting the it's of the people on them). The boomer middle class was basically a lucky break from having an extremely prosperous economy and a "labor peace" created by union action. Now that those things have been dismantled, it simply can't exist.
This is, unfortunately, the destiny that most people deserve and can't escape from.
It'd just be nicer if the boomers would shut the fuck up for once and accept how shit it is.

>Idk, maybe most people simply can't have a job that pays well and doesn't make them miserable.
its this. sure you can make enough money if you put in enough effort, but that means turning yourself into a soulless wage who works 50+ hours a week. you're either financially stable (and not even wealthy either, just not poor) and miserable, probably needing heavy medication just to stay sane, or you're poor but at least you have autonomy. i'm stradling the line right now and staying poor seems like the better option. i make a decent wage, but i don't get enough hours (which i like because i have some free time to do shit i like) to earn enough to even rent a house or an apartment. with my skillset, i could easily make enough to live on my own, but doing so would mean a 1-2 hour commute into the urban areas of my state to work 8+ hours a day and thus leaving me no free time. this is what happens when you fall for the trades meme. this post >>16129841 supports my anecdotal evidence.

Obviously that's not fucking true at all, it's just slaves passing down slave mentality. Whether that is the failings of my parents or of "middle class" society is up for debate. But the simple fact is boomers had every opportunity and more to meander through life and still end up on top; WE were born into the fucking grinder, the grinder built on the greed and selfish policies of those that came before us.

I couldn't see it before but my eyes are open, and they see how hopelessly fucked we are. Are there outliers to the millennial generation? Of course there are. People who had the luck/foresight to take advantage of the tech boom and the standard athletic/artistic talent. But like the boomers before us, those are few and far between. What's left outside the outliers is the average, and the average says wages have stagnated while asset prices have skyrocketed. It is exponentially more difficult for my generation, who entered the workforce in a recession and is about to face its second, to accumulate wealth.

Our manufacturing industry was exported overseas.STEM was exported overseas. Trickle down economics has all but guaranteed millennials will be an entire generation of slaves.

Is there a better way to redistribute wealth? Yes: LET THE MARKET CRASH. Stop rewarding thieves for warping the system and exploiting loopholes. My generation would once again suffer the largest hit of that crash, but at least then we'd have a chance to accumulate like those before us.

But that will never happen. We'll print our way into hyperinflation. And that's why I work in finance. Fuck all of you.

It’s not the market’s fault, it’s the government bailouts

Less power to the government is preferred as well as efficient use of capital — if Obama didn’t bail out the banks they would have syndicated the loss and the market would have been corrected itself over time

The birth rate for the eastern bloc, while slower to follow that of the west, was nonetheless dropping like a brick as the '80s wore on. Add onto that a stagnating economy, and a sterile culture, and shit was positively not good.

The USSR in fact suffered a baby bust so bad after WWII that it depleted Soviet military manpower over the '50s and '60s.

Reality is at odds with fantasy here. Everybody under 40 has been fed lies that the economy needs those worthless degrees in Underwater Pussy Stimulation and its effects on tribal transnationalism, and not just simple honest labor. Shit article, but it is unreasonable to attribute blame for the socio-economic state of current year to an entire generation, when in reality; the issues of today are the result of a failed economic and political system. Our democracy is a sham, therefore boomers can't be blamed for the actions of politicians. Our economic system is controlled almost entirely by wealthy bankers and corporations, therefore boomers can't be held accountable for the state of the economy when their individual actions had a very little impact on the economy. Hindsight is 20/20, and I find it hard to believe that they would not have made some sort of collective effort to change things if boomers had known that the economy would turn into what it is today. Sure they are status quo apologists, but mass media has become a powerful force of propaganda.
