This is purely your assumption. They haven't said that. They are not even in the role of setting up any nodes. The community does that. The project is fully open-source and the maintenance and future development is available for other devs as well. Only part that is closed is the company part of NKN that provides fiat-gateway for the big customers. And that is necessary if they want to use fiat to pay for the services they want in NKN network. This is super-great for NKN adoption.
