BTC : everyone has a copy of the same ledger. You know every transaction that ever existed
HOT : You only retain your own ledger. If you want to make a transaction. You verify that the person you transac with has the enough, by verifying its ledger. If it has enough, both ledger are updated.

I know I am missing a lot, but this small example makes DLTs sound ridiculous no?
