I always knew my family was poor and didnt earn good money, my parents do have some money and my dad does gamble off his money that he earns but i've come to learn that adults and parents are just trying to make do and almost everyone is struggling with money by living paycheck to paycheck or budgeting their life/going into debt. If my parents make poor financial decisions it is their issue and what they do with their money that they earned doing jobs that most people wouldn't do nor are pleasant or is a great experience doing so for decades is their problem.

The worst part is that I was actually paying more than that before, I had to negotiate with my own father for $400/mo and we argued over it. I basically told him I looked through craigslist and compared housing prices in the area. He didn't bother doing any research into it and just tossed out that number because it was 1/3rd of the price of the mortgage.
