I don’t like this explanation at all. I always thought Pepe as a representation of the ego and Wojack as a representation of the body. Pepe conveys emotion without hardly ever changing physical form while wojack conveys emotion only by changing physical form.

Humans Co evolved with animals and we're constantly around them. Human survival depended on animals, for food, clothes, indications of changes in weather, new lands, etc.

Today we still have this instinct even though we've destroyed the animal kingdom. As the animals in our environment disappear, we desperately try to fill them with captives (pets), and more recently, still and video images, or stuffed animals or cartoons.

I've always loved frogs since I was a kid. When I was a child I loved catching them in the pond or looking at treefrogs on the window. My favorite place to go was froggy golf, a frog themed mini golf place. I stopped giving a shit about frogs as I got older, but in my 20s Pepe made his first appearance. Now I'm a cynical 30 yo Boomer, and I've come full circle to staring at frogs all day. The frogs of my youth seemed to embody the innocence I had, the frogs of my 30s seem to embody my bitter cynicism and smug nihilism. It's interesting how things have gone full circle.
