It's backwards compatible except for gas costs, which are never meant to be static and were already changed several times. Anything that doesn't hardcode gas amounts is going to work.

Blockchain Trilemma might not get solved with Ethereum from the looks of it. It's best to stick with Blockchain 3.0 like Algorand if you want to build dapps without having to deal with scalability issues
