Basically you borrow money for a position you can't actually afford so you can make gains that are unsustainble. For this I put up some collatoral so if I was to long $100 on 10x my position size would be $1000 and I'd be using $900 collatoral from a lender. Since the lender doesn't want to lose his money, when price goes against me my collatoral is drained untill I have none left and return the $900 to the lender.

not really that's my point. you can adjust your margin anyhow you like. your leverage will change accordingly.

No that's pleb tier thinking. You can adjust leverage and it will give you different stoploss levels, that's basically what it is. But your account will still be leveraged at X. Which is the % of your balance that's being staked on a trade. If you long 10x isolated with 10% of your capital you're leveraged 1x. And anyone who says they're on 10x leverage but is actually on 1x leverage should be shot (or liquidated).

your explanation is the most pleb tier understanding of leverage i ever seen.

also the thing about 10x on 10% is also bulshit because you can trade the rest of your balance on other positions which is the point of leverage so of course if you are $1000 in profit and went 100x leverage you are leveraged 100x even if it's only 10% of your account and you started at 1x. that's the point. it just a meaningless number to your risk.

your margin on a winning trade only determines your available margin for other trades. and your margin for a position evidently determines your leverage. you can even see your leverage slide around when the market moves against you on mex. you start at 2x and you will find yourself next day at 3.7x without doing anything. that's because your position is fixed and your liquidation is fixed and your margin is sort of fixed so your leverage is adjusted.

That's all counting unrealized profits/losses. But what you say is that it is your margin. Which will equate to a % of your balance. Without unrealized losses/gains that's the same as saying that margin equates to x leverage which is what you use. Unless you want to include speculative numbers like unrealized profit/loss. So 10% of your margin = 10x leverage.
