Traveling is a hobby. Some people are into building PC's, some are interested in buying shitcoins that are mostly valueless, some like fashion, others collect books. If any of you have lost >$5000 US investing in crypto you have no right to judge somebody who prefers to be spend their money on seeing new places, meeting new people, and having the time of their life.

People who shit on travel are usually those who never tried it, or don't do it right. If you're a close minded person who can't even fathom why someone might enjoy traveling, then you're probably too close-minded to get much enjoyment out of travel in the first place. In the past five years I've traveled to Spain, France, Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Malaysia, and Bali, all those trips solo. In each place I had amazing experiences, learned about myself, and always came back a more well-rounded, more productive person. You'll always find people who want to go out and have fun, or you can meet girls if that's what you want. The flights I got to Spain, France, Italy, and Athens were all less than $500 (I waited until there were deals) and almost always stayed in a hostel for less than $20 a night (even cheaper in lower cost of living countries, but I never paid more than that). Always met amazing and fun people.

It really isn't something that can be quantified with words or money. Obviously if you're a poor fag you'll never get the opportunities I had, but if you make even 45-50k, you can have a nice two week vacation for less than 2k if you know what you're doing.

My father is dying of cancer at the moment. He retired at 40, he is 62 now. I've been trying to help him figure out his finances as he gets increasingly unwell and confused. Man .. it is all over the place.

He has 6 properties which are rented out. Two of which are part owned by his sister and brother. Nearly all of them have insanely low historic valuations due to transfer of ownership/inherence tax purposes and are uninsured for this reason. They have complex contracts involving supply of water/services across agricultural land split into family parcels with split ownership with standing charges and rents for services basically making them tax loopholes as they generate very little income on paper.

He has managed funds all over the damn place. Like every year somebody seemed to get to him and take 20-60k off him. A lot of this stock is now held on online platforms which he has never logged into or accessed. Some of it is in companies which have consolidated and he has new shares in new companies which he needs to redeem/register.

He has dividend cheques from all over the fucking world in different currencies which he never cashed because he doesn't know how to and believes them worthless. Like ... you hold 66k in stock bought specifically to give you an income and you don't cash the cheques.

ANYWAY. My point is ... why do anything? He worked his ass off and seemingly entered into complex arrangements in order to retire at 40 and has spent the last 20+ years sat on his ass watching TV living on a fixed income.

Life experiences are where it is at. Money only has value as long as it can be exchanged for something and basic needs are not very interesting. He has all this money - but he never started his own business. He never travelled much/far. He never had many relationships. Just watched fucking TV and walked the dog.

I'm not much better. But the question posted by OP is basically what is the point of it all? Travel is new experience and new perspective.

There's truth to this. Girls who are traveling are something else. Never had any problem having a girl go out with me, or even cucking their boyfriend back home if it came to that. It's hard to describe, but almost every girl is friendly and looking to "eat, pray, fuck." One time in italy i hit if off with this chick and we went out to dinner, drinking wine, and she was to fly to greece later to spend time with her boyfriend. I spent $10k on a 9 month motorcycle trip through Southeast Asia in 2016 with my gf on he back of the bike. We went as far out into the jungle as possible, to where we had to ride multiple hours on dirt trails just to get in between remote villages. It was the best thing I've ever done. I started travelling in my early 20s, when I made around 3k/month playing online poker. I was already married and my son was 1 y.o. Didn’t stop me, I like risk. So, while travelling for about 5 years in south eastern Asia I came up with 2 business ideas. With the first one, I quit stressfull poker and started making around 5-6k monthly almost stress free. With my 2nd idea, about 5 years ago and with 50k usd I started a production company which is worth around 15 million usd now. Not much, I know, but I’m certain the room for growth is at least 5x more and it’s almost passive income for me already, netting me 30-50k usd monthly. I have a family of 4 now and travel at least 4 times a year.

just came back from Mexico City and experienced the same thing. everything was very cheap. from lodging, to food, to drinks, etc. and the people were very friendly. even though I was "el negrito", it was also obvious I was from America so I received a lot of love from the people there. For a week the whole trip, including flight and lodging, cost less than $1k and I had money budgeted out still left over.

The trick to traveling if you're on a budget is going someplace where USD can take you further. That'd be Latin America easily, Eastern Europe, and some parts of Asia. You have to be a little smarter with your money if you're going to Canada or Western Europe, but it can still be done quite simply if you plan out.

Can't wait to travel elsewhere. I want to do Santiago and then Europe.

traveling alone is really really random and about chance. if you're outgoing and approachable, then you won't have a problem. I know white guys have it easy when traveling to foreign places, but I think the next best thing is being a good looking American black guy because you are truly exotic in a lot of these places.

I study history and architecture so I like to see the things I read about all day in person. I'm also very interested in geography and observing the life in different places, just looking at my dot on a world map makes me excited, it humanizes what is generally only an abstract thought. Civilization is my obsession and I want to learn as much about it as I can. Actually seeing what I spent 5+ years reading about is an experience that tops most.
Go alone and average around $3000-4000 for 3 months. Don't really care about food and not that into alcohol so my costs stays low
