eth2 is a new chain they just posting finalization to the new chain so both work in parallel . Interoperability is part of the design.

this is akin to building a new plane, flying it next to the old plane and having fuel siphoned into the new plane. the new plane being a harrier stealth jet and the old plane being a twin engine ww2 fighter.
