I tripped over a power cord. Bringing them back online but on BCH because I've been meaning to upgrade.

Time between blocks varies, as PoW is pretty random. On average, blocks take ~10 minutes. Occasionally one gets found in 2 minutes. Occasionally one takes over an hour. It's called a Poisson Distribution.

The hashrate "crashed" because a few too many blocks in a row took too long to mine, and the mining difficulty function got confused.

PoW is antiquated garbage. Get in the fucking PoS coins now during this selloff

>> No.15708137

Lower price means less mining cost effective so miners stop. Then difficulty lowers automatically so mining is more profitable and you get more miners and then difficulty goes up. It is a self balancing system which is centered around the price which automatically adjusts mining difficulty whether or not mining is 'worth it' for miners. And don't even think of a 51% because that's not happening.

i think difficulty only adjusts every 14 days or something

yeah but why did 40% of the hash rate disappear in 1 day? i can see this being a gradual process of miners moving in and out

no way these guys made up 40% of the hash rate

Miners are already running on a razor thin margin and the last 3k winter is fresh on their mind. With the current price crash, it makes more sense to pull the plug early and short the market rather than risk running at a loss.

This sounds very bad. If the network's performance is random, Bitcoin will never be reliable enough for global adoption.

No, this poster is retarded. Blocks are designed to be found on average once every 10 min. If hash rates are too high and blocks get found quicker than that, difficult readjusts to get it back to 10minutes.
