Why the hell should one use a "cold storage" for ETH or LINK or other tokens if you can just use a MetaMask wallet?
I can keep my seedphrase in a textfile i encrypted with Cryptomator on my Android phone (why on the phone and not on the computer? because getting hacked on Android is basically impossible if you arent a total retard. of course, if you have a system running Linux that would be even better but i dont have one currently)
the same encrypted file is stored on a usb drive so if the phone gets lost im not fucked
tell me why this isnt a perfect solution

metamask stores the private key in browser storage, how do you think it works?
although it's possible to use metamask with nano s

i only use it if i need to make a transaction, which is extremely rare. then i install the metamask extension and type in the seed phrase. after i completed the transaction i remove the extension again

what makes you think it's safe? if your computer is infected it's going to steal your crypto after you enter your seed

i only type the seed phrase on a linux machine. now that i dont have a linux system i wont even touch my wallet.

It's reasonably safe to use metamask. Cold storage is more in case you fear EMP attacks or some bullshit.

another thing is: i basically never do transactions from my wallet, only to my wallet because i am constantly accumulating a certain token that stinks. and for transactions to the wallet i dont need to be logged in to the wallet.
so i only need to keep the seed phrase in an encrypted container and i dont see any reason why i should use a ledger nano or trezor.
i basically only need to log in to metamask once i cash out. and getting hacked on a linux machine, just right in the moment i am logging in to cash out is nearly impossible.

Even if your cold storage device gets thrown in a river you can use the seed to open the wallet anywhere..you can even use trust wallet on your phone to view everything in your ledger or trezor

I use cold storage so that I don't have to keep up with some needlessly convoluted system like yours. All that work and you still don't beat a simple hardware wallet. But, whatever makes you feel good man.
