It's called crabbing and it happens on a downtrend before a huge drop. In crypto this happens like once every 2 years per token. It's going down, buy physical not paper if you have to.

Cap gains always sucks, but I THINK the step up rule also applies to precious metals, which is good for the long term planner.

Step up rule for those who don't know...

... normally, when you sell a stock, you have to pay capital gains on it. So if you bought for $20 a share and sold for $100 per share, the profit (the 80$ per share) is taxable.

... the exception to his is if you hold on through your death. In that case, your heirs get the stock, but their cost basis is the price of the stock on the day you die, and not the price you paid for it.

... in other words... if your heirs turned around and sold it for $101, only $1 dollar would be taxable (101-100).

If the step up rule applies to precious metals, then you could accumulate for your whole life, and then pass it off tax free to your heirs when you die.

good countries have exemptions. The UK and Canada both have certain exemptions from cap gains tax. US being the least free nation in the world might not have any such exemptions, but look into it.

Buy stuff like ASE's, brittania bars, maple leafs, 100oz bars (Johnson Matthey or RCM) you can resell online.

You lose about 7% when it's time to sell, and then there's the 28% capital gains tax. You have to really be in it for the long term.

Gold is way better for resale, Europeans and whales, but silver is more undervalued overall.
