Why does UOS need blockchain?

How does this tech help it? Why can't it be built on a centralised platform?

>> No.15561425

Because its good. Just for example ask your mother why she needs tits when noone is sucking them anyway or ask your father why he needs his dick when she is not able to create normal children anyway? Just because its there.

It doesn't really need Blockchain. It has a few gimmicks that seem usefull but I doubt it is, depends on how it looks like when used. Like Proof-of-Ownership, if you own the items in a decentralized wallet and you can send them around to other players outside of the game, which is still centralized, then it has some merit I suppose. But in the same way you could say that if the game isn't decentralized then that doesn't really mean much. Similar to how in Bitcoin you'd hear someone say that if you don't own the private keys you don't own the Bitcoin. If the game is centrally operated then you don't really own anything, all you own is a token representing an in-game item, so it's more a placeholder, the real thing is on the database of whatever corporation runs the server. So you don't really own anything at all. It's a nice buzzword though.

Other than that, they simply offer some generic cost cutting and streamlining services to developers to try and compete with steams monopoly. Something else in the whitepaper is about transaction transparency, seems like another buzzword to fill some blank spaces.

White paper doesn't mention a lot about how they utilize the blockchain. For example they tell you that they use blockchain for the resale market. So users can resale games to other Ultra users. And I assume it's about proof-of-ownership in this case. The games are configured into tokens that can be traded on the platform. But Steam could easily implement this themselves without having to go a blockchain route. And though it seems nice, it's a bit redundant. There's no real decentralization going on. Steam basically locked you down because you are using their platform and UOS unlocks that feature, but leans on buzzwords to sell it.

I did. No one answers this question.

Probably because no one can. Prove me wrong.

Why does UOS benefit from the application of blockchain? Why can't it be built in a centralised manner?

50% of the token supply will be given away trough referrals. The token seems to be more of a marketing gimmick than something with any actual value. It's more like a coupon than an actual currency. You can attain tokens by watching ads, participating in beta's and other stuff like that. Claiming that this is a new way to ''earn revenue'' playing games. But it really isn't, it's really no different from a developer giving away free items or something like that. Just that the company doesn't mind you trading them.

Blockchain technology is really great to gaming when it's completely decentralized and you own everything to it. Trading in-game stuff is a legally gray area because it's all owned centrally and the player can't actually sell something that isn't his, so there's the problem of taxes and stuff like that, which you can notice on Steam, they do have taxes on all the trades you make. But if it is completley decentralized, then the ownership really becomes a ''problem'' of the player and not the developer/publisher. So there's no liability to the publisher when people trade it.

It has some merit Iusing the token, blockchain and theoretically it sounds plausible it's just that practically it doesn't actually bring anything new to the table, in this particular case that is. Since it could work, but they're halfstepping it. And you really can't half-step it cause then it's just buzzwords and empty promises. And all of that could be implemented without any blockchain/token. If they went all the way, they'd really need it. But they don't. It's more a marketing gimmick this way.

>> No.15562185

>>15561932
Thanks. I think Blockchain gaming is the future. Not in this way though. But the way they do it is more like an IOU. So you get a token representing an item or game. Similarly to how you could buy a gold certificate and the gold is in the bank, and you think you own it, you certainly can trade the piece of paper around with others but then you come to the bank to claim your gold and they can simply refuse to, it's in their vault after all.
And owning a token representing a game or item isn't the same as actually having the item itself registered to your wallet stored offline on your own computer.

Also, if the developer of any of these games stop supporting the game for whatever reason, the value of the players items would simply crash because the expectation is that the game will slowly die. If the game is decentralized then the community can still take-over and work on the game themselves if they so desire. If the game is also decentralized it can keep running, if the developer was to pull the plug for the server then everything is lost aswell. If you decentralize it, you can keep the game running in perpuitity and no progress or items ever gets lost and progress in a game will actually matter again.
The game really becomes owned by the community in that way. Which it should be. They pay for it..
