I've spent more time than I'd like to admit thinking about this. Think of how Bart Simpson and Bobby Hill are voiced by women, its a ball-less voice that's high pitched but not necessarily 'shrill'. If you ever hear a girl read an apu post I think you'll understand what I mean, especially if the girl isn't confident and/or unaware of what she's reading.
