Are credit unions a meme?

>> No.1553907

>>1553815

No, to the extent you have to place liquid assets in an institution for regular expenses, it should absolutely be in a credit union instead of a bank. Fuck banks.

This. Fuck banks.

We have one in town where a manager cried to my dad about never seeing any younger people there. Yeah, see, young people can't always keep $25K there to avoid fees, pay fees for a paltry selection of services, and be a regular visitor during work hours. Idiot. No wonder the government had to bail these morons out.

Shittier online banking and interfaces/docs for loans/mortgages.

But generally better rates, customer service, and waiving of ATM fees.

Check bankrate.

Look, I'm not saying close all the banks, I'm just saying that regular people shouldn't be giving them money.

He's a parasite who thinks flipping shitcoins is honest work. You can't reason with their kind. They'll just lobby mommy government to force you to support them anyway.

There aren't any credit unions near me - the nearest branch for any one I'd even qualify to get into is a good half hour drive away.

Would it be worth switching regardless? Are there any real benefits beyond morals?

I wouldn't worry about qualification unless you mean the nearest one to you period is a half-hour away. Most of them have relaxed their qualifications quite a bit in the past few years. Even the company ones you might be able to get into.

I also wouldn't worry about it being a half-hour away, most of them subscribe to nationwide ATM networks and they may have check scan deposits or where you can mail in checks for deposit.

As far as the benefits, they usually have marginally higher interest rates, and it may qualify you for their car/house loans, which is where you would really save. But the big thing is that it's non-profit and it doesn't deal in the wonky investment crap that gets banks in trouble. Not that there's anything wrong with that, for all the fags like >>1553983, but you don't want to gamble your bill money away.

Credit unions have far less fees, including zero for maintaining checking/saving.

Also better auto loan rules/rates.

Wait until you are looking to borrow money.

Bank: Don't you want a 3% interest rate?
Credit union: Don't you want a 2% interest rate?

It's that nice.
