How do you get disciplined and not distracted by entertainment?

The way I do it is to combine entertainment and work. For instance, I would work on coding something, and whenever I'm waiting for the code to compile I browse 4chan for a second.
Or I would use the pomodoro timer and use entertainment as a reward for 25 minutes of work.
I have cut out entertainment completely before, and it works for a little while, but it usually finds its way back in.
