People who bitch about it either watch too much Fox or are just too poor to enjoy the city. One of the best parts of SF is it’s proximity to natural places like Mt. Tam and Point Reyes and farther places like Yosemite and Tahoe and all the forests up north.

Enjoying the city itself is best done with money, so if you have none your visit will suck. You’ll just stay at some mediocre hotel, order uber eats or at the tourist trap restaurants, get your car broken into because you were stupid and left a backpack and a suitcase in it. Then you’ll go home and tell everyone San Francisco sucks.
Meanwhile the patrician tourist stays at a nice hotel, takes advantage of all the michelin starred food and rooftop bars, and rents an extra night so they can leave their valuables in the hotel until their evening flight to go skiing in Tahoe.

one thing i dont understand (im probably ignorant) , but when you have a city like SF, how do neighborhoods like "the tenderloin" (ghetto full of crime, drugs and niggers) even still exist? how has wealthy property owners or businesses not pushed everyone out and built expensive housing and businesses in that area?

>> No.15511738

>how do neighborhoods like "the tenderloin" (ghetto full of crime, drugs and niggers) even still exist

Rent control and section 8 housing makes it possible for poor people to live in expensive neighborhoods. Homeless programs keep the local homeless population alive and attracts homeless people from elsewhere to the city.

>how has wealthy property owners or businesses not pushed everyone out and built expensive housing and businesses in that area?

The local gov't is very selective on the zoning and what can/can't be built.

>> No.15513045

>>15512984
So avoid food trucks- they're tasty (unhealthy af though), you think they're cheap but they're like $10-15 for a meal.

Also avoid any meal-ordering apps. Because of the burger tipping culture it turns a $10 burrito into a $20 burrito with delivery fee.

If you have to eat out (I recommend cooking over anything in SF, some of the smaller delis are fucking great. There's one near Grace Cathedral I really liked. Whole Foods was weirdly cheap too, didn't expect it), then Mexican is the way to go

I remember Taqueria El Buon Sabor in the Mission being great, seems like everyone has their own favourite burrito place though. El Capitan (somewhere near Japantown iirc) was good too.

Devil's Teeth Bakery is amazing for breakfast sandwiches but it's kind of a trek.

There's a place on Bush Street called Fresh Coffee or something that looks like shit but actually does great and cheap Banh Mi, they're very similar to what you actually get in Vietnam.

Chinatown also has tons of shit if you look hard enough, you can get some very legit food for not much $$$, I remember coming across a very legit pho for like $7 somewhere there.

Also North Beach is great for Italian, the Italian Homemade Company is amazing.

Kind of depends what you like eating really

Thank you for the meme, I will cherish it.

Honestly it depends what you're into.

One great thing about the place is meetups, there's shit going on for literally any subject you can think of. If you're technical and you like crypto, you're in the best place on the planet, as the Bitcoin Dev and Lightning meetups have Core/Lightning devs in attendance, so you're discussing the future of bitcoin with the people actually writing the code, it's fascinating.

Definitely go do some hiking, take the boat out to Larkspur or somewhere and there's some really nice places. Or go up to Muir Woods, Stinson beach etc.

One thing I regretted was not getting a car and going further out (haven't driven in a while or on that side of the road so didn't want to risk crashing), there's a lot of great outdoorsy stuff further out from the city.

It's the kind of place where if you're prepared to out and meet people who share your interests in hobbies you'll make friends quickly - if you don't, it's easy to end up by yourself as people tend to dip straight after work due to their insane commutes back to Palo Alto or wherever.
gigs, it's a pretty good city for music - seems like more people play LA, but I went to some great shows in Oakland while I was there.

>>15513264
>Great recs. Devil's Teeth Bakery is great and you can make a day trip out of Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach

This x1000, get a few podcasts lined up, get a breakfast sandwich in DT and make a day of it, it's great.

North Beach is great, if I ever live there again that's probably where I'd live.

Privet kazap.

Basically, it's just an average city when you are walking through it. Uber is super cheap and renting mopeds is super cheap.

Houses in the city cost $2,000,000-15,000,000+, so you are never getting a house unless you make $400,000.

It's also one of the few places in the world where you can make $400,000 outside of medicine and law.

As a result of the prices and the stigma, you rub shoulders with better educated and wealthier people than you would in a shit flyover state.

P.S. Never "lived" there, just crashed on a friend's couch for a week.

I just visited San Francisco on my way to New York City, and let me tell you: 'Frisco looks like the best city on Earth currently to live itinerantly in; there are numerous alleys too narrow for automobiles but wide enough for foot traffic uninterrupted by the many handmade tents & shelters crammed up against the windowless edges of the adjoining buildings. Sorry to everyone for how I sounded earlier I was baiting.
If you’re gf is here take her to golden gate park, skip the museums unless you have money. The art one is good, the science one sucks now. Take her to the big white building the conservatory of flowers, it’s very instragrammable. Also the Arboretum, which is outdoors is cheap and very cool you can explore a long time.
If you’re near the park go to gordo’s on either side, cheap taqueria that gets the job done. Also a fancy Tartine nearby now.
Land’s End is a nice spot, very instagrammable for the ladies and a beautiful view in general.
China beach and baker beach have views of the bridge, as does Crissy field, all of these are free except for the arboretum and the conservatory of flowers, but they are very cheap and if you two like plants you can see a lot of stuff, even redwoods! Big ones! Walk across the golden gate bridge. Lots of chinese/asian food too out in the sunset and richmond. Gordo’s is cheap and clean though, as are the pizzerias. The boats at Stow lake are kind of pricey but even just walking there is beautiful, this is a very nice lake, please treat all the animals nicely fren, even pigeons in the city. Please. My only request fren. Very picturesque place stow lake is.

Chestnut street is kind of expensive but it’s nice at night and the marina is nearby, the cheapest there I can think of is that pizzeria, i forget the name but orange sign. There are also like bars and ice cream and cake and cupcake places on chestnut.
Look at a satellite view of google maps and you’ll see that there is a lot of green space and coastal space, golden gate park is massive, you can talk a nice long walk along ocean beach, the marina and crissy field and golden gate bridge is a long stretch of views where you don’t need to pay, except for food.
DO NOT GO TO THE SCIENCE MUSEUM IT SUCKS AND IS EXPENSIVE.
