Hi /biz/, first subreddit post I've made here in a while. I was watching some crackhead russian youtube channel and saw one of their videos about solar panels in which they made a solar setup for their entire house, by using damaged solar cells (e.g. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/B-grade-Solar-Cells-broken-solar_60520072946.html).). Although it seems retarded, it made me wonder whether or not it would be viable to make money from these, especially if you used the electricity to mine bitcoin. Furthermore, I'm sure you could buy scuffed bitcoin miners on alibaba too, i remember reading about them being sold by the kilogram in china a while ago. I also found this blog which has interesting information:
http://www.altenergy.org/renewables/solar/DIY/free-solar-panels.html

What'd you think?

You can buy damaged panels for cheap (compared to new) and the majority work fine. They can work when cracked etc. You just want to make sure they're sealed. For mining? No chance. You might be able to run a single antminer from it but nothing more. Trying to get a steady 1-2kW from units is hard. You'd need such a large battery setup to keep a good flow, you'd spend thousands on the setup.
