>best case
Im right and the markets are going to tank and ill dubble my money in five years

>worst case
I have protected my money somewhat against inflation and can sit on it for decades looking for the right time to sell and get better returns then it would sitting in the bank.

Im a complete newbie and i want to know everything you know about buying and selling silver. Plz halp.

google ways to buy at spot. A lot of the large online retailers will sell you ten one ounce coins or ten ounce bars at spot. You usually can't buy for less than spot so use those deals to start, you can probably get 30-50 ounces that way

I disagree entirely. Silver Eagles are extremely recognizable and much easier to validate as authentic as an amateur than some generic buffalo round with no mint mark.

ASE = can be traded to anyone
Generic = only trade at a coin dealer.

That's why it's worth the premium.

t. Used to just buy cheap generic crap that looks like every scam bar on Ebay.

>> No.15414376

1) Spread out your purchases.

Kind of how stock purchasing works, you don't want to go all in all at once. You want to have opportunities to lower your average price per ounce on your silver as a whole.

Maybe every paycheck, buy so and so amount of oz and keep track of your average per ounce. Imagine being the idiot who spent his savings in 2011 on silver @ $50/ounce all at once.

2) Buy bars

Coins have an upcharge and you're buying the design/year/condition of the coin AND the silver itself. No doubt silver sellers make more margin on coins because they're in higher demand and not everyone is some rich boomer buying $1000 per order.

Bars are essentially buying in bulk and let you get as close to spot price as you can get and this is how you'll get the better deals.

Buying designer coins and whatever is a good hobby but it isn't wise investing. Keep the core of what you're doing at bars and if you REALLY like a coin, buy it.

side note: There's less surface area on bars to get tarnished.

3) Don't larp

You already have a good mindset. Silver is a good insurance against economic failure. It won't magically become THE currency if every nation's economy falls at once. In reality, it'll be a barter economy until new nations are founded and they birth new economies etc. etc.

It's just one asset among many that are worth money but it is a great reliable asset.

Am I going to be peddling silver on the street?
I can go to a pawn shop, a dealer, a bank, etc. Plus, bars aren't dumb antiques that need to be in plastic cases. Melt them down, drill holes in them. Who cares. Validate it all you want. It's just a fucking bar of silver. A hunk of dumb metal.

>N-no you c-can't test my 1800s silver coins! They're collectors items!!! AAAA DONT DAMAGE THE RIDGES ON THE SIDE! NOOO YOU'RE DEVALUING MY COINS

Let's do some math, retard boy.

I want to buy 100 oz of silver RIGHT NOW.

If I go to SDBullion's site and buy 100 random year Silver Eagles, I am buying it for $2063

$20.63/ounce
$1.73 over spot.

If I buy a generic no-name no-design no-year 100 oz silver bar from SDBullion, I'm buying it for $1868.95.

$18.69/oz
50 cents over spot per ounce

I just saved almost $200 FOR THE SAME AMOUNT OF SILVER.

That shit adds up, but maybe you're too low IQ to do basic math. Me on the left. You on the right.

coin design/year/condition is only worth as much as another collector wants to give you. The only hard value retained is the actual silver weight, not some subjective autism about condition/year/design.

OP wanted to invest in silver so I told him how to do it. You want him to invest in the equivalent of model trains in your basement.
