I was doing a house remodel where an old gold bug had lived. There were 4 seperate safes all in various stages of concealment. And then there was the 18" concrete vault under the house accessible only by crawling under the house. We were all fairly certain the guy had hand dug the vault space. There was maybe 24" of clearance under the house until you reached the entrance, which was also concealed well. Not much space inside but I guess there was enough.

Gold is a great indicator of a recession. Faith in the American currency system goes down, and the value of gold goes up. Watch the direction the line on the chart moves as time passes and you'll see it climb every time a recession hits us. Interesting though because its climbing at over 3 times the rate that it did back when the bubble burst back in 2008. By my estimates, the value per ounce of gold should spike and climb from about $1500 per ounce as it is right now, all the way up to over $2000 per ounce in only TWO MONTHS. So yes, think of how things were during the year 2011. We should all theoretically be right back there in the same or similar circumstances again in only TWO MONTHS and it could get better, or worse, from there forward. Your topic actually sounds rather founded for legit concern. Wish I had some gold and a safe to put it in myself, but alas, I didn't invest in any. Might be a good time to panic though. Hide your stash for sure.
