Scarcity basically. The price rises when people are buying more than people are selling. It encourages people to sell to help fill all the buy orders.

Hence I just put money in on a regular basis. However I put a few thousand into link at around 50 cents and I won't add more unless it dips to $1 again, psychologically I couldn't buy it again at the price its at now.
