How do I make money off Instagram?

What content should I post. Is follower count an accurate measure of how profitable my account is?

Is it even worth it, are we talking like $20 a month with maybe 100k followers?

Depending on your niche, you can sell related items on a website and shill them on your Instagram.
Alternatively you can find other people who sell related products and offer to shill for them for a fee.

I think you would be better off starting with twitter as viral content is more easily shared there. You can have followers ass your instagram on top of that.

I'd look into the psychology of viral internet posts or atleast find some sort guide on virility
