The market is in a very precarious position right now because Trump can't cuck any further without looking like a spineless pussy, and the only thing that could save a decline news wise is a trade resolution or an emergency Fed cut.

If China was smart enough to intervene and crash the markets, they'd do it now. Steamroll Hong Kong.

I love it, a major recession is absolutely necessary.

>> No.15246178

Real talk. If you aren't going 100% cash then you're an idiot.

FACT #1: Inversion of 10y2ys always signals a recession within about 2 years.
FACT #2: The recession isn't immediate, there's usually a runup of about 15-20% before it starts.
FACT #3: Recession will be around -40% to -50% drop.
FACT #4: It is difficult to time the market and catch the run up.

We can conclude that the only intelligent action is to sell everything now and go full cash. You lose the 15 to 20% runup but will avoid the -40% to -50% drop. You can buy back in a -50% and double your money instantly. This is a once in a decade opportunity. Don't mess it up.

Yes, because as I mentioned timing the market is difficult or impossible. There is usually a runup before the recession. You can easily lose a huge amount of net worth attempting to time this. Just go all cash. There's no need to be greedy. You will be making a killing already by buying in at rock bottom prices.

>> No.15246236

>>15246055
Pretty much in the same boat. I have no freaking clue. In 1999 or 2007 I would have bought T-Bills or something like that. Interest is high, bonds are cheap, then the market crashes, interest plummets, high-yield bonds skyrocket as people flock to safety - perfect timing to sell and switch back to dirt-cheap stocks. Today? Fuck me if I know.

Parking it in the money market seems super risky (in terms of missed profits). Well, I guess if you trust your prediction (crash in 15 months) it's definitely better, but the uncertainty would be too much for me. For now I'm holding my ETFs but holding off on regular buys for maybe ~6 months to see what's happening. My hope is we'll see a bit of a bubble/rally before it comes crashing down (would fit historical patterns) and maybe a few more interest hikes (if only to give central banks literally anything to use as signalling if a recession were to hit) making the classic bond switcheroo more viable.

>Also does this analogy imply the knife would slice through your hand and keep falling? Can Wall Street not into physics?
the analogy isn't about what happens to the knife, it's about what happens to your had.
If you're cooking in the kitchen or something and a knife falls, it's not worth the risk to try and catch it in the air; let it hit the ground, then pick it up. That's all the falling knife analogy is, a warning to the traders not to try and buy in on strong downward momentum. It's not about what happens to the knife if you try or don't try to catch it.

If you want to make the analogy like that, just imagine that the knife is waaayyyy bigger than you, so trying to catch it with your hand doesn't appreciably change momentum.

Here's my thesis:

We're witnessing a replay of October-December 2018.

The fall in markets since the start of this month is annulus to the speed in which the October market fell.

We've already had our bounce so here are three possibilities;

1. We pump from here and this thesis is invalidated.

2. This market is going down another 3% and then trading up and down in a massive range until something either breaks or gets resolved in the trade war/fed policy.

3. We drop like a stone soon on a black swan.

We're gonna meme ourselves into a fucking recession. I'm only half joking here.

If everyone believes we're about to enter a recession, normies will start spending less and saving more, driving down consumption, and therefore having a material, negative effect on the larger economy. Then the jobs/profits report comes out and is negative because everyone sperged out and didn't buy anything.

And then it becomes confirmation bias because now there's actual data to suggest a recession, triggering more people panic selling and saving, creating an actual recession.

There doesn't need to be any underlying weakness, people just have to believe that there is.

It's the same people at the helm regardless of who is President. Clinton packed people from Goldman Sachs into his cabinet, just the same as Bush and just the same as Obama.

Ben Bernanke got his start in Washington DC by being on George W Bush's economic advisory team and he was nominated for Fed chair by Bush and reconfirmed by Obama.

They simply don't care who is occupying the executive seat, just as long as they can be manipulated.

When Trump started packing his cabinet with Goldman Sachs Jews, the game was over.
