The JSON parser meme comes from the fact that one of the proposed uses for Chainlink is "communication between different services", which is already possible via HTTP and JSON which stuck as the data exchange standard.
Chainlink is valuable only because it provides consensus in a smart way, but there aren't really any uses for it for now.
