after a week of using you'll stop 'nodding', and start using just to avoid the withdrawals. after a couple of weeks, using just gets you to 'normal'.
the withdrawal is vicious. not as bad as alcohol, but extremely unpleasant.
heroin is the most over-rated thing on planet earth. crap. weed is so, so, so much nicer.

100% without question it's weed. i've used literally every common recreational drug to excess, normally to the point over overdose just to be certain that i was experiencing absolutely everything the drug had to offer... before ditching it and going back to the alcoholism which i was trying to escape, hence my using drugs in the first place.
weed is the absolute and undisputed god of drugs imo. nothing is as cosy, as non-damaging or as healing as weed.
lsd is alright. stopped me drinking for 3 days. might not sound significant but for me it's a huge deal.
psilocybin was more dangerous than fucking heroin, because i took a dumb dose. i got my hands on a stash from a headshop in amsterdam. was advised to take 5 grams, ended up taking an ounce and 12 grams, and... well, i was so ruinously fucked it was legit more perilous than stopping breathing on heroin.
dmt was a madman, launches you in an instant into some alien world wherein you talk to aliens, then 20 minutes later you're sober again. the hallucinations, omfg. my sofa came to life, had a big tongue hanging out of its front, and was panting/sweating and walking around the room.
meth had me up for 5 fucking days and nights even though i got drunk and sobered up 3 bastard times, still couldn't sleep.
crack is stupid because all you do the whole time you're on the damn stuff, is go around with a torch on your hands and knees looking for molecules of the stuff which you dropped. plus the high wears off in literally 2 minutes.

it's a lot less likely. it's the frantic mission ahead, the intimidating hours of trying to find enough money, wait for a dealer, try not to get ripped off, try not to get arrested and so on and so on, these are the things which make it so rewarding when you're finally back home and high. like telling a kid he can't have something he wants, he'll just want it ten times more. abundance on the other hand ultimately yields indifference. locking people in a cage and making drugs as expensive and hard to come by as possible, massively increases the number of barriers to exiting. if you can calmly be certain that you can always have as much as you want no matter what, i think you'll soon want to be sober.

no it's not, but as soon as it gets close to closing time, i'm generally launched into a state of panic, wondering whether i'm going to run out. so i buy loads more. if it was always available i'd never have that frantic moment of worry wherein my life's sole purpose is to acquire more. as soon as you're on that mission it's impossible to relax, so you just want to get on with it asap. it takes hours with drugs, and there's no guarantee you'll even get any. it's a much calmer, less stressful affair with booze because it's legally available all over. but yeah as i say, as soon as there's any hint of it not being available, i panic and stock up.

When hooked on expensive opiates, if you’re any semblance of a functioning, independent person, you quickly realize you only have a certain amount of time, alotted by the drug, during which you can feel well/normal.
