So I did some bell curve graphs on some stocks a while back, think it was about 5 of them? Well anyway, data was based on some formula I made up in excel. It was based on the close - low/close. I found out most of the data seemed to leaned in a positive skew direction when I put values from highest to lowest on the X-axis. I wonder if this is a common theme in many stocks? I guess I'll do some more research on this, will post results when I'm through.

AFAIK there's no plans for expansion in the near term future, and there's no good expectation that they would grow significantly in their existing locations. On the other hand, if they did decide to pursue an aggressive expansion program, then they could potentially grow a lot. I guess Amazon in the states is good for this. Here in leafland it's like early days of netflix. Selection is very thin and not a selling point for prime. Amazon Canada's prime sucks in general. Long term a company like KHC is positioned quite well to react to market demands. I know a guy who's been working hard for years to sell his mom's spaghetti sauce recipe. It's really good and it's made with real ingredients and everything. But he's been having to pay for spots in Kroger stores to have his product even put on the shelf and hasn't made dick for money so far. People bought a LOT of Annie’s. People asked a lot about gluten-free, lactosefree/nondairy, and vegan/vegetarian options. I think even about organic. We rarely sold much velveeta.

I buy organic produce where possible. But I stopped buying organic chicken and milk. Why? It came down to money. The organic chicken at Costco costs something like twice the price of the regular chicken. Whatever the difference, I'm didn't feel strongly enough that the organic chicken was so much superior or healthier to justify the additional costs. At least with vegetables, I feel like I'm eating less pesticides. My point? Even people who would consider paying a premium for "organic" food will think reconsider when money is tight. My wife went through a gluten-free phase, but even then, we never paid full price for exotic coconut chips or whatever. If we bought those, we bought them at a significant discount from the discount grocer. Eating gluten-free meant not eating weird wheat substitutes like tapioca bread or cauliflower-crust pizza, it meant doing without and eating reasonable substitutes like rice. Even regular Cheerios now advertises itself as gluten free. Eventually, she decided gluten-free probably wasn't responsible for the symptoms she had (which largely cleared up)? I expect that gluten-free will prove a passing fad.

Is there something about KHC's brands portfolio that means it can't offer organic or gluten free brands to satisfy demand. Like I mentioned earlier, Costco stocks Classico among it's organic pasta sauces. What's stopping them from slapping an organic label on Kraft Dinner as well? Besides, while the demand for organics has expanded, it's still a relatively fringe part of the market. Compare shelf space devoted to organics versus non-organics. Even moreso for other categories like gluten-free.

Kraft is a better product than Annies, plain and simple. If I can ever get evidence that the yellow coloring isn't really harmful, or that Kraft had replaced the ingredient, I'd buy it again on my next trip to Costco. I'm sure our kids would love that stuff.

I don't know about Velveeta, but I think there's a lot of positive brand sentiment toward Kraft singles. Maybe not quite as strong as some people feel about Coke but not too far off. There are two good things I can think of about Kraft singles. First, it has a pretty mild flavor, unlike provolone cheese for example, so it is easy to give to children in particular. Second, it works pretty nice for when you're grilling cheeseburgers and it's cheap. No one cares about topping a backyard cheeseburger with Parmigiano Reggiano.
