>be manager at a biotech company
>receive phone call from the parents of someone who applied for a position in the lab

What the actual fuck? Not only am I not going to hire your kid now, they're a grown ass adult who has supposedly been through university, but in what world did these other grown ass adults with kids think it's acceptable to call a place on behalf of their own kid for a job?

Jeez they're probably just desperate to help him get a job no need to be critical.

You wouldnt happen to be 50+ and believe a firm handshake tells you everything you need to know in regards to hiring?

>> No.15163112

>>15163102
I can't see how anyone would think that's a good thing to do for the well-being of their child. The idea is nice, yes. But it shows the company you're calling that your kid can do NOTHING by himself, which is a trait which you actively want to avoid in your employees.

boomers are so out of touch they think by reaching out and firm handshaking you over the phone you'll hire their good ole boy. he'll work hard for ya! he's a gud boi!

This >>15163114 is how the conversation went. I asked for their kid's name and told them I'll review his resume to see if he would be a good fit for the position. I took that information and dumpstered his application.

You'll change your mind when he and his pops come down to look you in the eye, give you a firm handshake, and demand that job.
So it was in olden times.

This. They're either black, or boomers. Both seems to think that they can get free stuff, just by asking. It's an entitlement mentality.

I once had a professor complain about parents calling him, and arguing about their children's grades.

>> No.15163850

A Boomer told me once "you gotta move!! You are not moving!! You have to send your curriculum everywhere!!". It turns out he always lived with his parents, and after doing a flimsy course a big company hired him. This was around 1985 in europe. He does not even has a college degree, or languages, or skills… he was just born in the right time of history. But it turns out we are at fault according to them. I am glad I cut communication with him.

Why would you punish him for the actions of his parents? Just pretend nothing happened.

Because OP's time is scarce and he can better spend it by discriminating against people whose parents have coddled them to the point where their daddy has to be the voice of their "value"

This. If you don't, you're a faggot.

That being said, if his application was solid, don't just reject him for it. Boomers are retarded and don't understand how the market works, so it's possible they went behind his back to do it. And you shouldn't dismiss him based on the absolute retardation of boomers, they just don't understand how cutthroat the job market is these days.

Zoomers are a generation of niggers, expect things to be handed to them.
The parents probably applied on behalf of the Zoomer.

I wouldn't doubt it. I'm 26 years old, so these zoomers aren't much younger than I am.

Brainlets that need their handheld aren't ideal employees. You want niggas with initiative and drive, not some fog-brained NPC.

They absolutely went behind the kid's back, anon. Unless something in the call itself tipped you off that the kid has given their consent.
"How's the job hunt going son?"
"Oh, well enough I suppose, no offers yet but I came across a job offer that I'm actually excited for."
"Oh, do tell?"

His parents had major influence on him his whole life. The fact they did this, speaks about WHAT KIND of influence that was.

Would drop in an instant, but also tell the guy why. Then he'll be able to reflect.

>> No.15164318

Interview the kid and see what he can offer. If he's a good fit for your company, hire him and mentor him. You might help him escape from his controlling parents. He'll be forever grateful and serve your company well.
