some companies have too much money (AAPL), some wouldn't significantly increase their growth if they threw all that money at reinvestment (PG, JNJ, KO), and right now, its actually better for the balance sheet for most companies to borrow debt at these levels and write it off than use their cash to finance growth. Furthermore, companies such as REITs need to pay 90% of the profit out in dividends to maintain tax benefits.

why would anyone spend their money on something that doesn't pay them dividends?

What about people who had to live under communism?
it's a mess dude
Then it gets even worse: the people who could be capturing nice yields but CHOOSE not to. People born in the first world who can buy anything, but choose to buy things that pay no divvy.

All I can do is capture as much yield as I can and really enjoy it. For the sake of all those who cannot, I will collect dividends.

Without divies we're just trading a company backed currency, not holding ownership of a company. Owning your own small business is about making money for yourself, and doing so without selling your ownership. Owning a share of a large company is the same concept, you should be paid for your ownership once it is a financially responsible decision.

so you are getting about half of the payout 'organically' and you don't have to sell as many calls to still hit a nice yield target.
all three are pretty tasty. I prefer a strategy with steady yield % but more growth, so a yield that grows more over time on its own (tax advantage)

What they're doing is ensuring that people who are using AMZN for their retirement (those fucking slick boomers that bought in the 90s) have to sell their ownership in order to do so. If you have to sell something to profit from it it's a commodity that you're trading, not a company that you're investing in as far as I'm concerned.

High-fashion encompasses many aspects of fashion, from luxury-wear and couture to deconstructionism and anti-fashion, it's more so how she carries herself and shows off the garments I'm referring to as well as her overall aesthetic (Just look at the contrast and colours and that fucking gorgeous tub senpai). Plus the look and especially the fit of them is characteristic of high-fashion brands' pret-a-porter pieces. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that shirt and skirt are SLP or Dior, so what do you consider high-fashion then anon?

if there was a good possibility (say 50%) of GALT being worth a billion dollars, someone would have bought them out by now for several hundred million...
They've been trying to get people to buy them out and the share price just keeps falling. it seems there isn't anything to hold it up. what if they just keep falling and then get bought out for $150million-$200million (right in their current range)?
There is no reason to assume that a buyout would be an astronomical 500% premium, asking anything over a 100% premium is unusual. The only hope is that they actually get enough phase 3 results shown to pump the stock price and then get a premium over that. But that won't be anytime soon. Hopefully they find some support in their current range (near $3.20)

I'm not a fashion person
To me it just looks like a person dressed "normally". the fit isn't anything special. the bathtub isn't anything special, maybe for Europe that rates as a nice tub but it looks a bit short for an American bather.
For me, high fashion is wearing full-kit NYSE around the house: pit jacket, tie, comfortable walking shoes. Lanyard and headset optional, exasperated or smug look (depending on market conditions) mandatory. The whole affair.

That's silly. You're not even factoring in the market value of the drug itself. You are only thinking in terms of share price.

Belapectin is worth a couple billion for the Nash aspect alone. If it's multiple aspects work out, like cancer with keytruda, this is worth so much more. Could be 10B+. The longer it goes not being bought the more you get in the long run.

Buy and don't watch it like a toaster. Just hold.

I will say again that a $1B valuation (500% premium buyout) is not something that you should be expecting
You two are sounding like "LCI to $60" posts

if GALT achieves that valuation on its own, it will be because it doesn't get bought out and achieves its phase 3 results. Which will take a while.
I will continue to hold my shares as I said, but if you think a billion+ $ buyout is something you should expect anytime soon, you are expecting a completely unrealistic event without any precedent in terms of historical biotech buyouts. you're expecting a deal with unheard of premium.
extremely high premium would be like 180%. that gets us from a current share price around $3.25 to $9.1. that's absolutely best case EoY as far as I'm concerned. And that is the ultra-longshot best deal of the year case.

We were way oversold in the aftermarket/premarket yesterday, this rally was a relief rally on the back of China's currency strengthening...it's pretty artificial.

Still, look back to the October-December 2018 timeframe for price actions. We're all dependent on major news from either China, America, Fed or....my under rated little favourite...Uk/Europe. Brexit is happening yo and the markets haven't priced that in fully yet.

I'm bearish but that doesn't mean that if China or America come out tomorrow and say "LOL JKS, TALKS BACK ON" that the market wouldn't retrace 50% of what we lost in the last week.

A biotech buyout doesn't have all that much to do with share price, it's more about the strength of the product that's being developed. The company that's buying them out isn't competing with shareholders, they're competing with other big pharmas. The idea of owning something that appreciates over time is a foreign concept for most people. I think there is an IQ cut off but I can't remember when.

High time preference. You're living for the now, and spending money in the now, rather than saving or investing for the future.

Here's two good examples;

Pawn shops: money is needed IMMEDIATELY on used stuff and you get paid shit-tier prices for things, when you could sell your item on ebay for a better price 9 times out of 10.

Pay day loan businesses in the ghetto that charge you 5% or whatever to cash in your paycheck act the same way.

The clinical trial data I saw this morning looked pretty good. There was no mention of how many Complete Responses they saw, but apparantly the Progression Free Survival mean (22 weeks) and Mean Overall Survival (32 weeks) were good numbers.

Overall Response was 50%, meaning half of patients has some reduction in their amount of cancer. Which is good, though not the best I've seen from the Biomemes I'm watching.

Notably, I've yet to see mention of the rate and severity of Adverse Effects, which is something I like to look at pretty closely. If a drug risks killing super frail cancer patients, it's going to be a lot less useful.

Quick question from someone relatively new to this.

Say you've been averaging down on a stock for a while and now are holding more shares than you'd really like to, and now it's on the upturn. Is there a reason not to place a high limit sell order on some of your shares to ensure you dump some above your average if it spikes while you're not paying attention?

The risk is basically exactly what you're assuming it is. If it spikes through the roof and stays there, you'll be limiting your upside. If it spikes up and immediately comes back down again, you'll have lowered your exposure and freed up some cash. Diversification is good, you're right to be concerned about holding too much of one name.

If you think something is going up, buy a call. If you think something is going down, buy a put. Keep it that simple for a while. Don't forget about the premium. The normal mistake is when a stock is $5 and you think it's going to $10 buying a $10 call. That doesn't do you any good because you only profit if the stock hits your $10 + the premium, so even if you're right you may lose money. In that case you probably want to buy the $7.50. Also, don't listen to faggots here. Until you've been in options for a bit don't try to learn the greeks and buy and sell options all the time. Buy contracts you believe in and hold them to expiration (unless you're just blatantly getting reamed in your newly formed asshole). This way you get to monitor an option and learn a little about how the prices change. Once you've done that for a little bit start watching youtube videos about the greeks. It will probably make you feel dumb for a while, that's fine and normal. Start playing them in the background so it just seeps into your subconscious. Watch your options while you're doing this and absorb all the info. If you're any good it'll only cost you a couple thousand to learn how it works. Of course if you do learn you'll get burned in the end after your 10x your original investment and then your wife will leave you and you'll be broken, lonely and ashamed, but that's just options baby, you gotta roll with the punches.

That's assuming the regular returns come to fruition.

Look, historically since 1945 if that was your strategy it would work wonderfully.

But every generation or two there is a decade where stocks get wrecked in real terms after a huge run up.

It happened in the 1930s and then again in the 1970s.

It's during market turmoil that smart actors are the ones that either protect their wealth (anticipating the market turmoil to a degree) or increase their wealth (knowing what asset to invest in for gains).

The market is essentially a battle for control over the future.
