can somebody tell me why USD/CAD dropped about 30 pips in two seconds about 50 minutes ago? there was no news or anything

No you just got stopped out.

Who cares about the reason? If you're trying to trade technically just chalk it up to a small loss and move on with your life. Sometimes (always) there is no reason fora move.

No. What I mean is you will never know why something moved. It could be totally random- maybe a bunch of orders just went off at once. Maybe some big fish just liquidated a position. You have no idea and there's usually no way to find out. Again, if you're trading technically, it doesn't really matter.
