Why the fuck are they like this?

Subscription price per month:
>netflix: $9
>amazon prime: $13
>hbo now: $15
>hulu: $6
>youtube premium: $12
>spotify premium: $10
>hotstar: $10

Total: $75 per month, or $900 per year. If you bought $900 worth of LINK a year ago at $0.23 you'd have $8933.31 right now, or $17765.22 if you sold at $4.54.

So you've of course already donated or sent money to the game developers directly? No of course not, you don't care about supporting the companies. But if you did when you buy a game, large chunks of that go to the distribution platform, sales and marketing, the company executives and stock holders, you'd be lucky if $1 dollar of your $60 game goes to the people who actually developed it, because those people are probably salaried anyway, and so won't be encouraged to try harder next time or w/e you're imagining because of a single additional sale of their game.

Plus its almost impossible to buy a game these days without it requiring you to sign up to some third party distribution platform like steam, or to install some intrusive adware, or have it bundled with annoying DRM. Fuck that shit. I actually do buy games if they are something like GOG because I don't care about the money and its faster than torrenting or waiting a few days for the crack. But if it has DRM or requires steam I will always pirate it no matter what.

The best media is often made by companies that don't make a lot of money, and the media that makes a lot of money is usually dumbed down shit marketed for broad appeal. More money doesn't mean better games, it just means more marketers and advertisers jumping in to take their cut.

Yeah, the COMPANY gets the $60 minus 30% or w/e the distribution platform takes, minus costs of advertising, marketing, minus executive payouts, stock dividends / buybacks, etc. That is money the COMPANY has. Yes, some of that money goes to paying dev salaries, but that amount paid to the devs doesn't increase because the company got $60 more dollars in sales. The devs get paid the same amount of money regardless. Maybe if the devs have stock incentives then your 1 additional purchase of the game may indirectly cause them to have an infinitesimally small increase in the value of those stocks. Maybe that will be worth collectively more than $1 of that $60, but most likely less than 1 cent of that $60 will go to the people actually developing the actual game, not the company's stock holders and various middle men leeching off them.
