Ignore moral arguments for the moment. Climate change is materially incompatible with growth economics, production is already slowing, and we can't shift our infrastructure to space before the ecosystem collapses taking us with it. Renewables are a dead end because it still takes fossil fuels to extract the materials to build them. If we had started working on carbon neutral infrastructure and climate mitigation in the 70s we might have stood a change. As it stands the economy is already in a state of collapse. It's just that collapse is a process not an event so most people won't realize it's even happening until it's already far too late.

Marxism actually might of been right given that the rate of profit will indeed fall to unsustainable levels for capital. However, Marxism didn't and couldn't have accounted for climate change given its historical context, meaning, that communism likely won't be the result of capitalisms end. Personally my bet's on us either devising some new more spiritually enlightened form of contracting economics or we regress back into feudal and slave societies doomed to live on a desert planet for 10s of thousands of years.

The tax gradient needs to be steepened at the upper end and reconfigured so that there aren't obvious loopholes. Human nature is the con. Humans will always take the path of least resistance. The free market relies on the idea that over time rational behaviour prevails because rational behaviour benefits others and yourself the most. The issue is when you present something like heroin, something that rationally a person should avoid because the long term costs of addiction outweigh the benefits. However if companies were to market heroin aggressively due to a lack of regulations in pursuit of short term profit you could easily get 40% market penetration, remember in this free market a corporation could pay to suppress short-term information and sponsor people to say the product is great.
Now imagine as technology gets more powerful a corporation invents some microchip that causes intense euphoria for anyone who uses it etc.
Don't want to ramble too long but the gist is the free market fails because most people are brainlet normies.
