Used to be somewhat of an alcoholic but now I drink one day a week. It’s been fantastic. Gives me something to look forward too each week and one day of drinking doesn’t impede my life. This is not an easy task though. You’ll be pressured by friends, family, yourself to break your structure. But if you stick to it it’s incredibly rewarding.

Some people just don't have an addictive personality. I've always been able to partake in something then just walk away. Coke, booze, weed, you name it. I do it for a bit then forget about it for months or years. Only reason I get back to meth regularly is it is a phenomenol productivity booster. Nothing like working on a programming problem and going hard for 40 hours straight. I always make sure to stay up no more than 2 days and I eat and maintain my hygiene. That's what fucks a lot of meth users, lack of self care.

Maybe so but lemme shill the 40 hour thing for a bit. See, your perspective on a problem evolves and matures over the course of an extended extreme focus session. You see things in a deeper sense that you cannot see by, e.g., working on something 8 hours a day for 5 days in a row. You make connections that just can't be made otherwise. It's like a laser pointed at that one specific thing and you just go and go and go until you've accomplished what you set out to do. I get more done and better work done in one of those 40 hour runs than in any normal 3 week period. Better results, deeper results. The only downside is meth causes you to get so inside the problem you end up coding up a much more clever solution than you want to work with afterwards so there is a little deconstructing to do when you sober up. Very much worth it for me though. I'd say 99% of people couldn't handle the drug though and would just get strung out. It's too strong.
