The fact that literally every single job in the insurance business could be replaced by smart contracts and IoT connected sensors in the next few years. Look at Tesla vehicles. You could create a smart contract based insurance company that pays out based on data gathered from the ridiculous array of sensors on each vehicle. It could determine who was at fault and how much should be payed out to whom before the insured person even stepped out of their car. There would be no employees in such a company, so the rates would be unbeatable. Any insurance agency not using smart contracts would be ran out of business almost instantly. Many jobs in finance will also go away, along with many lawyers, and other white collar office jobs. This isnt even considering the derivatives market which is hundreds of times larger than all of that combined. $1000 is definitely FUD. “EOY” is the only part of it that is a meme, but technically, it never says which year.

Average year of a car on the road in the US is 2012 and like 1% of new cars sold are Tesla's...and there are big doubts that there's enough hardware on even new Tesla's to do half of what this guy imagines. But even if they can it'll be decades before they see the road in meaningful quantities.

And by then the need for insurance contracts will be different. Chances are you'll have something like ACC or other frameworks.

It just doesn't hold up and has no basis in reality. This goes for every LINK fantasy.

Tesla uses cameras with image tracking software, which differs from what most assisted driving tech uses(LIDAR). Despite LIDAR being more reliable, Elon has stated he chose cameras instead because they are higher fidelity sensors and all that is needed to improve them is software. LIDAR has physical limits, like detecting color or certain textures, cameras do not. All that is needed to make a Tesla function with smart contract insurance is software. Some pretty impressive software, but still just software. Its not even an issue of waiting for the tech to exist, it already pretty much does, all we are waiting for is adoption and regulations. This may take a while but I guarantee it will be here sooner than you think. Lets not forget that 20 or so years ago the internet was just a novelty. Now its everywhere.
