i've been wondering that for a while, what exactly is to prevent a scrypt asic from running adaptive-n? adaptive-n just basically doubles the ram requirement for each step, surely a scrypt asic can just use two memory registers to do it? it's the same exact calculations, just double memory.

The question is not the physical or theoretical possibility but the effort that it needs. Simple change to the n-factor makes manufactured ASICs useless.

The bottleneck is not the processor that does the calculation, but the RAM. The slower the connection from processor to RAM is, the less efficient the miner becomes. So you would have to construct new boards for new n-factors all the time, which is just not practicable.

SHA-256 can run simply on a processor. The speed of ASIC appears, when the algorithm is programmed into the chip directly. Scrypt demands not only the algorithm on the chip but also much RAM and therefore gets a much smaller Hashrate, because RAM is 1st. slower than the processor directly, 2nd can not be put into the PGA-Chip directly because it needs too much space and 3rd more expensive than mass produced ASIC chips. If you now modify the RAM an algorithm demands, you need new ASICs and new boards, which are expensive to produce and therefore ineffektive.

This really isn't hard. Get a line of credit at Newegg or find a credit card with very long deferred interest. Newegg is a year over X amount, and so is something like the Chase Freedom card.

Max them out, buy 750 ti's, use no electricity. Or, do like a 4x or 6x dual 1200w PSU r9 290 build and use the capital to immediately pay off your debt.

Guess how I got 13mhash as a college student? I started with 1 6950 and mined bitcoins with it until it could buy me another. Then, I spent something like $2000 and did a 5x 6950 build on credit.

Paid it off, did it again. And again. And again. I'm just about to pay off the latest 2mhash I added and will be doing it again. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I make about $2100 a month now just from mining shitcoins. That's pretty fucking good money for a student.

muh niggers. I do not think this is the case. if your total income (including coins and jobs) exceeds a certain amount then you need to file income.

To be honest, just don't even report your coin income -- open a separate checking account, sell coin for fiat, transfer funds into separate checking account, withdraw at ATM.

cash deposit into regular checking.

likelyhood of you getting audited is low as long as you don't make huge purchases that you couldn't normally afford. Bitcoinfags who made millions can't hide it, but us altcoinfags making $5k/year max can easily hide it
