During the ICO craze of 2017 there were dedicated autists (in the true sense of the word) who were making monstrous spreadsheets of dozens if not hundreds of ICOs, and ranking them all according to various criteria.
/biz/ was still a small enough "community" that there was a sense of collaboration and these spreadsheet anons would often share their findings.
With a lot of eyes hungrily hunting for the best, most promising ICOs it's no surprise that /biz/ got excited about the world's first peer-reviewed whitepaper, co-written by Ari Juels (who most of us knew about from his IC3 presentation in 2016) and laying out an extremely considered and academic approach to the oracle problem.
What surprises me more than /biz/ finding it is that it took everywhere else so fucking long to cottton on. Like, surely "first peer-reviewed whitepaper" would be a green flag in an environment as full of hype and charlatans as the ICO craze was.
