How profitable is farmwork, /biz/? Thinking about putting behind all this clown world shit and just spending my days with the crops and the cows.

You'll probably go bankrupt in a year.

Don't romanticize agriculture. It's a shitty way to barely make a living.

Pretty profitable I'd say.

If you pay cash for the massive farm equipment then sure it might be worth it. You just can’t keep up with competition unless you own big equipment. If you’re out there on your hands and knees for the whole process you will profit like $0.50 / hr. And to sell to stores you need government approval with gmos and such. I knew someone who took out 750k out of his retirement and went completely broke. It’s equivalent to trying to start a lawn mowing business in a city full of immigrants. They rush their jobs with big equipment and destroy their competition by keeping their prices dirt cheap, not worth it imo.

I'd do it for myself and my family
government subsidies ruin the free market, it seems like niche markets like organic and unique selections command a high price but I don't know
I would probably use agriculture as a hedge in my portfolio to own land and grow certain trees like apples peaches cherry walnut etc.
grinding for corn and wheat doesn't sound like fun
do you know much about the industry?

Depends ofc, you can get more production out of a smaller acreage as there’s less space to concentrate on, you could go into hydroponics, aquaponics and turbo grow certain plants depending on your local market or you could go for the legit organic and sell at a premium. Still, you’re unlikely to make a decent profit, at least for awhile till everything is set up but if you build a ecosystem where you’re selling meat on but growing you own feed to feed them then you could turn a nice profit that way. Lots of angles, alot being land dependent too, you can’t just grow anything anywhere without preparing the ground and soil unless you’re going full Monsanto then it all about going big or die. Cows should be easy to turn a profit on, plus they’ll keep the grass down.

Alright here's another question then: how life-sustainable is farmwork? I guess if you could live off of what you make then there's no need for a constant stream of money, right? Just need to sell a bit here and there, no biggie.

There’s lots of people who make a living off it, depends what’s in your head or idea you have. I’m going down the organic route too but it’s a lot of work and a lot of learning as you go.

Yeah. I want to buy a farm, but I know fully well that it'll be mostly pleasure farming, and my main living will come from other places

some youtube guy does it all by hand and he says he can make ~50k worth of food a year
he also prices his home grown food in the high end organic price range and gets help from his children and volunteers
it's a tough gig but I feel like it would be fulfilling

but also pulling weeds in the sun sucks ass and being required to get the job done would gets tiresome

I'd be more into hand off projects and land management to offset some living expenses

Based as fuck. Do it OP and raise a big strong healthy white family with a nice waifu.

It’s hard work but you stay in shape and you get access to the best non pozzed food and best of all you reap the full awards of your labor instead of your boss Mr.Shecklestein.
