14847333 No.14847333 [Reply] [Original]

Sergey says he is building a decentralized oracle network.

Then goes on to say his network will be made of nodes that he and his team approves and are "trusted". Is this not a point of centralization.

He is running chainlink oracle network like the mafia.

He also wants kyc from node operators. This shit is terrible and it's gonna dump to oblivion.

>> No.14847542

He is saying that people can pick their own nodes depending on the level of security they may desire. It is just in the beginning to create a network of somewhat reliable node operators that still functions in a decentralized way to prevent sybil attacks. Also it is important not to confuse pseudonymity with decentralization. There are levels of decentralization and security and that is the grey area. When does it become secure.

Everyone will still be able to join the network which is the entire point of having a decentralized system

Hand picking node operators from other project before community operators because the single owner of the company 'decided that's the way hell do it'? it's total bullshit and a legit concern.

If you want help running a node we can figure out a way to speak securely.
You can have a node that exceeds their requirements up and running in a day with my help.
You'll never get approved.

I'm talking HSM secured PostgreSQL database with enough hardware to compensate for their shitty programming, fully encrypted storage, two local fully synced ETH nodes, subscription to fiews and infura as well as linkpool's RPC offering--all of these behind a load balancer for total redundancy.

Never.
Approved.

(You're in the shop for a valve job because you didn't know you had to change your oil)

ALL I'M TELLING YOU IS YOU CAN RUN A NODE ON THE LINK NETWORK YOU JUST WONT BE LISTED ON THEIR LIST.

You denied that here: >>14848985

I'm not disputing anything else you're saying.

Now it seems that you've decided to move goalposts:

>Your node will 100% never be listed on ChainLinks list.

You've got your head so far up your own ass you don't even know what you're kvetching about.

So, in short, do you or do you not dispute that anyone can setup their own node without KYC (NOTE: I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT BEING LISTED BY SMART CONTRACT)?

It kind of calls into question the entire spiel you've vomited upon this thread. Kind of makes me think you either have an agenda and are larping or this is actually your area of expertise and really have zero clue about what you're saying, and in actuality you just like the attention of 4chan spergs giving (you)s.

If you couldnt tell from all the Q&A questions, "tech" is just diversity hire reddit users larping to get fat checks for being poop colored and mildly retarded.

Decentralized is just a buzzword meme they use because someone else used it, repeat ad nauseam. All that has ever mattered, or is needed, is a geographically diverse enough distributed/ p2p network.

this is correct. any one can run a node and be on the network. you just won't be listed on their website unless your arch has been reviewed and approved + KYC. Nothing centralized about it. they're just recommending some nodes over others to customers. that's all there is to it.

this site always needs to be spoon-fed or they'll just be devoid of any knowledge. I can't believe I had to scroll all the way down here to find the correct answer.

>> No.14850283

>>14850103
incorrect. approved nodes are the ones that have to be independent. none approved nodes can be whoever the fuck they want to be and they'll appear on the network. they just won't be listed as a recommended node on SmartContracts website.

>> No.14850335

>>14847428
It's pretty straight forward. Anyone can be a node and appear on the network, be matter how independent/dependent you are or how shitty your set up is. SmartContracts has an approved list of nodes that they have reviewed their architecture, made sure they're independent and made them do a KYC. that approved list is just a subset of all the nodes in the network that chainlink thinks are good nodes to close t from. they're only giving a recommendation, not restricting anyone from running their own nodes.

it will stay this way until they feel like there are enough approved nodes to quit giving recommendation because the chances of a Sybil attack then would be neatly impossible.
