Sergey says he is building a decentralized oracle network.

Then goes on to say his network will be made of nodes that he and his team approves and are "trusted". Is this not a point of centralization.

He is running chainlink oracle network like the mafia.

He is saying that people can pick their own nodes depending on the level of security they may desire. It is just in the beginning to create a network of somewhat reliable node operators that still functions in a decentralized way to prevent sybil attacks. Also it is important not to confuse pseudonymity with decentralization. There are levels of decentralization and security and that is the grey area. When does it become secure.

It's pretty straight forward. Anyone can be a node and appear on the network, be matter how independent/dependent you are or how shitty your set up is. SmartContracts has an approved list of nodes that they have reviewed their architecture, made sure they're independent and made them do a KYC. that approved list is just a subset of all the nodes in the network that chainlink thinks are good nodes to close t from. they're only giving a recommendation, not restricting anyone from running their own nodes.

it will stay this way until they feel like there are enough approved nodes to quit giving recommendation because the chances of a Sybil attack then would be neatly impossible.
