Did the travel meme when I was younger and I'm happy I got it out of my system. I was an exchange student as a teenager and then spent a semester abroad. Got to experience a different culture early-on without being an NPC tourist who only travels to get fucked up in a place 1,000 miles away.

Going to be honest, it's a little pathetic seeing roasties that are almost 30 traveling and taking all these instagram selfies, pretending like they're not trying to capture something they've lost since graduating college. Started in Thailand, then Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, then flew to Malaysia. It’s pretty easy to get a bike and ride around there. The only problem is some countries won’t allow a foreigner to take a vehicle across the border. So we would sell our bike (at no $ loss) and then rebuy a different one once we get through the border. The cops never gave us issues and we never wrecked. Riding in city traffic is intimidating the first time but eventually you will find order in the chaos. If you’re thinking about going, I highly recommend Vietnam. It had the best scenic roads to cruise on the bike

Traveling like a broke just out of college kid sucks, been to a few places and honestly surprised by how much of the world looks alike, globalism and multiculti has mushed everything together. And the annoyances of flying in a cramped coach seat and looking for a shitty AirBnB is quite bit annoying. The only legit interesting place I've been to is Japan.

However traveling as a rich person is something else, I flew to London for work and used my credit card points to upgrade to First Class... when I got to my hotel (part of the Hilton Hotels chain) I decided to just say "fuck it" and get upgraded to the suite. It was wonderful... it put a fire under my ass to do my side project full time and try to become WEALTHY.

Why wouldn't it look alike? The only way to get huge population densities is to build glass + steel sky scrapers, and those are all going to look like the other. Roads are all made out of asphalt, traffic lights are all going to look the same, as will toilets, toothbrushes, and so on for anything you can think of in a city because everyone all over the world needs the same things.
