"Renting out your bandwidth" in NKN is just mining. You relay data for people/companies along lower latency routes and earn mining rewards for it

Unlike other mining NKN requires no special hardware or resources meaning absolutely anyone can do it, making it much more accessible and attractive than mining other coins

You relay others data. And if any of it is illegal, your ISP looks at you as the owner and distributor of said data.

You are also infringing on your ISP's fair use policy you signed up to when you joined them. You are making money from their infrastructure. Your use of their infrastructure is beyond the bounds of normal use as a residential customer.

And finally, the nkn token itself is just a gas token, without even the need to lock up nkn tokens to run a node.

I think the idea is that ISPs will use it to buy/sell bandwidth and optimize network utilization. An average person can also contribute and earn but that's not where the big money is. Also, with ~20,000 nodes it will soon be the biggest CDN in the world. Cloudflare has a few hundred.

Honestly this is kinda cool tech that will unironically never go anywhere. I say this as someone that got shilled to put in a $600 suicide stack BECAUSE the tech was cool, but the more I think about it the more the future looks bleak for this. I wouldn’t rent out my bandwidth for people downloading torrents and checking out cp you’re fucking crazy if you think otherwise
