I did, but got greedy after doscovering margin.
Got margin called 3 times on Bitfinex. Lost all of it by december when BTC was 20k.
Almost threw myself onto the subway tracks in Toronto but ended up stopping myself.
My dad still gets pissed off when he remembers.

paid my dad back in bitcoin for the lawyer and bail
he held all year and sold at 15.5k
turned like 8k into close to 200k

I held the rest of my coins until now
peaked at 3m sitting around 1.5 right now
get off probation in 3 months and I'm excited to quit my job travel and spend some money
going to vegas in November psyched for that
probably going to sell everything if we get a new ATH, I started talking with some financial planners
want to get away from this place desu

Put in $2k before the bull market. ATH was $50k while holding Ark ( one of the poorest performers at the time). I never fully cashed out, but made lots of mini cash outs throughout the months for rent and food.
I've manage to survive being a NEET for about 3 years now just from crypto. I'm running low though, back to around $2k at the moment.

I heard about bitcoin in March 2013 on 4chan when it broke it's prior 2011 ATH. Watched the crazy April 2013 bubble and decided to speculate w/ my tax return that came in May. Bought like 15btc total, lost some on Gox. Held through the 2013 rally and 2014-15 bear market, bought some more in the 300-500 range, and kept holding. Eventually we broke the prior ATH in 2017 and I foolishly began to sell too much too soon. Average sale price on about 25-30 BTC was like $5-6k or so but still an order of magnitude more than I'd paid. Also had modest gains in shitcoins but nothing crazy because I'm pretty much a BTC maximalist. Turned about 5k into 250k and was largely way out by the time it died at 20k. Went hard again in December and bought back 10 BTC at around ~3800 because it was obvious we'd hit solid support. Ride the wave boys and play the long game

I was all in Bitcoin cash the night it was announced it would be on coinbase. I gained like $15,000 in a couple hours so my roommate and I went in to SF to get some blow. When we got back to Oakland it had dumped but that was still a good night. I didn't make any money from 2017 but learned a lot about investing. I have a healthy 401k, IRA, and own a house now. I just mess around with crypto only have a few grand in. If I can get to 10k I'm going to start taking profit

Don't bother with tax evasion unless you literally make millions.

Short term capital gains is taxed the same as your normal income. It's really not worth the risk if you are only pulling out 50k, consider it as your job.

It gets a bit complicated in the US where every transaction is counted. If you are on a kyc exchange they can send you a report, ez pz. If you are on something else like hitbtc or some foreign shit just makeup whatever you want when you send it to coinbase to cash out.

If you really want to be a cheap noob and evade small amount of taxes you can just buy gold or silver with crypto. Obviously you will get under the radar of the IRS if you suddenly start trying to dump a bunch of gold in 5 years.

Thought about investing in crypto for awhile in 2017 but mostly ignored it because I had a shit job working construction for an asshole who barely ever paid me. Finally went in in December as a birthday present to myself with $500. Traded shitcoins up to around $4k. Stayed in ICX and got rekt. Got arrested April 2018. Tried to kill myself and spent a week in the hospital plus a month in rehab. Ignored crypto while dealing with jail, unemployment and debt. Tried not to cash out but capitulated around June. Got a decent job a month or two later. Became financially secure enough to start investing again in November. Started small but worked my way up to 12k LINK, which is now over $40k. That's the most money I've ever had in my life. I get off probation next week and can hopefully get my license back soon. All in all I'm pretty happy right now, and glad I didn't successfully neck myself. Buying LINK and getting sober were the best decisions I ever made.

I was super active on the old reddit board, but they banned me because I jumped over to vechain for some swing trading gains. saw vechain go from $1 to $7 and sold it aswell. 2017 was a good but albeit very stressful year. I lost 32 bitcoin on a hard drive. Had it on a laptop that I dropped, threw it out before I remembered. Forgot I had also lost my backup drive too. And my private keys were lost, I think the cleaner got them. I got into crypto literally for the 1st time at Nov 28th 2017, was in my last year at econ undergrad but I didn't know absolute shit about anything (knew a little bit about BTC tech, nothing about alts or trading)

I bought 10k TRX for the first time with pocket change for 72 satoshis... rode it out until about 400 satoshis, 1 week later I was away travelling and it went to over 2000

Actually did manage to sell REQ at U$1 and Substratum at ~U$2.50

When the bubble started to pop I sold 25%, and redistributed the rest into BTC and ICX (today I see in hindsight how poor portfolio distribuition and risk management that was)...

I basically arbitrage BTC now and HODL ICX, managed to use the 25% of the sold portfolio to rebuy BTC between 4 and 5k, even though ICX drowend my portfolio, I pretty much broke even at 10k and now just waiting for bull market
