Like, in 2017 things were fucking crazy. If a project had "masternodes" it would moon, if it had coin burns it would moon, things were mooning left and right with completely anonymous teams putting out 3 page whitepapers, it was fucking nuts.
Then you have this document, this (by those standards) hefty tome of peer reviewed material. A deeply considered technical dive full of nuances, full of anticipated challenges. Co-written by one of the most respected academics in the space, obviously with absolute fuck tons of thought put into it. I remember actually having to wait for the whitepaper to finish peer review before it was released.
And then you get into the problem they're solving and realise it's huge, that it applies across the entire ecosystem regardless of who wins the platform race, that these people are already in with the upper echelons of the global banking bureaucracy, etc. etc.

Honestly what mystifies me the most isn't that LINK is a fucking huge deal, what baffles me is that it took everyone else this fucking long to figure it out. To go back to my first statement, in an environment where the vast majority of everything was a pile of shit (looking at you Verge and your 4 page "darkpaper"), to have an academically reviewed, extremely comprehensive document as a statement of intent was HUGE. How the fuck did so few people notice?
