Chainlink is used to bring real world data into a blockchain to be used in smart contracts through the use of API's.

A smart contract is a digital contract that is tamperproof and forced to operate the way it is programmed to.
>WHY IS CHAIN LINK IMPORTANT?
Chainlink is using decentralized oracles to bring data onto blockchains. The nodes that use the link token operate on accountability to provide reliable data.
>WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE TOKEN?
The token is staked in a node to gurantee that the correct information is provided to the smart contract.
>WHAT IS A THRESHOLD SIGNATURE?
When setting up a smart contract, the user can select 1, 5, or 1000 nodes to provide the data. to reduce costs to contracts, thresholds can be established across the link nodes to come to a consensus of correct data. this enables the user to select one node while potentially using thousands.
>WHAT CAN ALL THIS BE USED FOR?
Smart contracts will soon help many fields operate more effeciantly including: delivery, insurance, derivative, stocks, medical, ect.. Link is bringing the data from API providers into these contracts.
