Which bank should I chose to setup my first basic checking account? How does one figure out which bank to use?

I guess I'm mostly just asking cause I'm curious if it matters in the end which bank I end up using

Fees, interest rates and ATM availability are main things to look at.
Compare ongoing/monthly fees between different banks. They probably have some sort of program as well to minimise/eliminate fees ie. deposit more than $X each month, so look into that too to see which suits your circumstances more. ie. Bank A has $6/mo fees and Bank B has $5/mo, but Bank A has conditions that if you deposit at least $1000 a month you have $0 fee, whereas Bank B does not.
Also if you bank has other products that are easier/cheaper if you already bank with them. My bank has a decent share trading platform that has lower fees when connected to my bank account.
