In Sweden, they take garbage and turn it into renewable energy:

http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2012/10/28/163823839/sweden-wants-your-trash

in fact, it's going so well that:

>Only 4 percent of Swedish garbage ends up in a landfill, according to Swedish Waste Management. Due to its efficiency in converting waste to renewable energy, Sweden has recently begun importing around 800,000 tons of trash annually from other countries.

now let's contrast that with America:

>In the United States, where the EPA says 250 million tons of trash was generated in 2010 alone, only about 34 percent was recycled.

Why are we so wildly inefficient compared to Sweden?

Implying landfills dont generate energy.

That only makes sense when you tax the shit out of throwing garbage away.

Take San Fran for example (they recycle a huge portion of refuse):
-2$ a month for a recycling bin on the curb
-26$ for general trash
You cannot do this kind of thing without government support, and the American public at large will not support this kind of bullshit because it's hugely inconvenient and everyone knows it.

Innovations comes about through necessity. Sweden has less land available for landfill and thus needs to seek alternatives. USA has Texas

the entire nation of Sweden produces less garbage than a medium-sized US city.

$4,000/month rent for a walk-in closet.

Seriously, that $26 or whatever is god damn trivial. In the midwest, you'll pay just as much but they'll add it to property taxes or your water bill. Nobody gives a fuck about it.
