here's a break down of how this basic scam works. twitter is run by dense normie people and have very little protection against impersonations like this (they only care about important things such as preventing misgendering)

1. make an account name look similar to @elonmusk. for example @e1onmusk or @elonrnusk (preferably one that twitter's font make look very similar to the real one)
2. Get your account verified with a blue checkmark. Optional step but not as hard as some might think if you have contacts.
3. Rename your account so it looks the same as Elon's. You can rename without losing blue checkmark. (Rename IRL first/last name not account name.) Use same avatar as the real Elon.
4. Post in one of Elon's real threads. Send some fake crypto to and from your scam address (this tricks the smarter dumb people).
5. Free money!!! For the scammer.
