This isnt 'retroactive' if the benefits were something you were told would be a possibility in the future and nothing was ever guaranteed in a contract. It's just a dick move.
However if said retirement benefits were a result of periodic investments (e.g. a 401k) then this is totally illegal and has to be fake news because I doubt Walgreens is stupid enough to publicly announce something like that instead of just pretending the investment fund failed.
